After an amazing last-second win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Lions have said that wide receiver Ryan Broyles has been lost for the season due to a torn Achilles.
Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed the diagnosis during a press conference on Monday, which means that Broyles has seen each of the last three seasons end due of injury. Those were torn ACLs, one in each knee, and now he’ll spend another offseason rehabbing furiously in order to be ready to resume his career.
Broyles’ loss leaves the Lions very short on wide receivers (as if they weren’t short in this position as it were) not named Calvin Johnson. Given Johnson’s productivity, things could be a lot worse, but Detroit will need to find some other options beyond Kris Durham in the coming weeks.
